Project Description:
To empower the working house maids and servants in our homes to have the facility of banking. I have personally seen the struggle of my house cleaning maid, who saved Rs 90000.00 over the last 4 years and in absence of any banking facility trusted the local chit company and is now struggling to recover her money.

I have met and discussed this work with an NGO "Prayas" that is also doing similar work at their office in Jehangirpuri. I discovered during my visit that ICICI bank has a scheme for all the people who have no documentation available to open a regular bank account. The only flaw of this scheme is that the person has to deposit and withdraw from one location, but it works with a photo identification card using biometrics to deposit and withdraw money with ususal bank saving interest rates as benefit to the members using the scheme.

Currently Prayas has an office in Vasant Vihar and in the next few weeks will help in running a survey in clusters of jhuggis in Vasant Kunj area and the adjoining two villages, i.e. Kishangarh and Masoodpur. After the survey a suitable methodology to support the people in these areas will be adapted with the base office at Vasant Vihar or by opening sub branches in Vasant Kunj.

The community project essentially involves working with the neighbours in my community and Sunita Sherawat is the leader of the project and Tashita Nigam is the observer. Our target is to empact 3000 people from these localities in the coming one year within the framework of this project and to ensure a perpetually expanding geographical area for this activity.

What I got out of SELP:
  1. Imbibed the importance and meaning of charity. Sharing of wealth is not the only way. Each one of us has time, talent and creativity and can make a decision to share this for the good of others. This is where true philanthropy begins where the focus is to empower individuals to reach out for their goals.
  2. Moral compass of integrity is the most powerful tool for differentiation between right and wrong. Keeping your word is the single most important commitment to self and is one's bond and is not subject to review (legal review in terms of current corporate practices) and interpretations. The conscious knows the bonds of words spoken and a simple handshake is more powerful than all the agreements in the legal framework for me.
  3. Put things behind you. Accept what has transpired and move ahead in a positive and dignified way. Don't hold grudges. Live in present, do not wast time too much on worrying for future although plan it.

My Future Plans:
  1. Focus my life on to the obligation of giving back to society so that I can be a powerful force of change in the society. Share my blessings and to me the new measurement of my success will be how much I give away.
  2. Enhance my skills by continuing education.
  3. Fulfill desires on learning new sports, keeping an agile and healthy body so that I can work till the end of my life, enjoying holidays and vacations at destinations of my choice along with passion to fulfill material needs and spritual needs with a dedicated time for reading and understanding scriptures.
  4. Creating a brand for my new business that reaches the pinnacle in the industry. Want to work and surround myself with people with whom I share the same ethics and moral values
